About Us


Rocky Gully Sporting Clays is one of the top Sporting Clay Clubs in Australia. We have monthly Competition Shoots (3rd Sunday of the month), Practice the Saturday before Competition Shoots (2nd Saturday of the Month) and at other times by appointment. One on One of Small Group Coaching can also be arranged by appointment. Rocky Gully Sporting Clays is a member of the South Australian Field & Game Assn (SAFGA) and Sporting Clays Australia (SCA) we also have alliances with several major Shooting Organisations. Through our affiliation with SCA we are linked into the Federation Internationale De Tir Aux Armes Sportives Sportives De Chasse (FITASC). Through this latter body we have access to the World Sporting Clays Championship and the World Cup.


Rocky Gully offers a range of Sporting Clay target shooting opportunities that can be enjoyed by everyone. You don’t need a firearms license or a firearm to enjoy the excitement of shotgun shooting. Firearms can be supplied and all shooting is supervised by qualified and experienced firearm instructors to ensure all shooting activities are conducted in a totally safe manner. The Club shooting ground is at Rocky Gully, Monarto and covers an area of over 200 acres. The ground comprises open paddocks and natural bush land. With 30 traps and 4 towers a wide and exciting range of targets can be presented to test shooters of all abilities from those just starting to the most experienced competitor. You don’t have to be a champion or to shoot in competitions to enjoy Sporting Clays at Rocky Gully.


Getting Started

The Club instructors can assist you to get into this great sport by providing training to assist you to obtain a firearms license or to gain club use endorsement on your current license. They can also assist you to purchase your shotgun to make sure you get a gun that is right for you. If you have just purchased your first shotgun learning how to shoot it can be a challenge. One of our team of six accredited firearm instructors will help assist you to learn how to use and care for you new gun. The instructors will answer all your questions about shot gunning and will soon have you hitting targets.  Shotgun shooting is fun for all ages and abilities.

Casual shooting

Anyone can come and experience sporting clays any time the Club is open. A firearms license is not required as shooting is supervised by an instructor and shotguns can be hired and ammunition can be purchased from the club.


If you have your own shotgun and would like to improve your shooting you are welcome any time that the Club is open. A special practice is also held on the 2nd Saturday of the month (the weekend before our monthly competition shoot.) Shooters who are not endorsed for club shooting will be supervised by an instructor.


Coaching can be arranged for sporting clay shooters of all abilities. Coaching can be done either one to one or in small groups. Session times can be arranged with the coaches. This is a great way to improve your competition shooting. Coaches will focus on improving the foundational skills of shooting and the work on problems with the shooters they are coaching.

Corporate events

Sporting Clays is a great way to reward staff and customers, to network or as a way to raise funds for your favorite charity. The Shoot Team can arrange a full or half day event. All aspects of the event will be planned to meet your needs. Catering can also be arranged.

Special events

If you are planning a celebration such as a birthday, anniversary, pre-wedding, party or to celebrate the end of the year or you just want to get a group of friends together for some fun, our team can arrange for a Sporting Clay shoot to be part of the event.

Monthly Competition Shoots

The Club holds monthly competition shoots as part of the South Australian Field & Game Association programme. New shooters are welcome to attend and participate under supervision.

Joining our Club

You are welcome to join our Club. As a financial member of the South Australian Field & Game Association you will become part of the Sporting Clay community. Call the Secretary, who can assist you to become a member. Discount membership is offered for families and pensioners.


Safety is our first and main concern. When you shoot at a Rocky Gully Corporate or Special Event you will undertake an intensive shotgun safe handling training module. This will cover the 10 Rules of Firearm Safety and includes a test. Only one participant will shoot at a time and when shooting they will be guided by their instructor who will be in close attendance. At such events all shooting is done within a safety frame that limits the movement of the shotgun and all necessary personal safety equipment is provided. All our endorsed instructors are highly trained and experienced shooters who have competed for many years at State, National and International levels. They are able to impart a strong safety message to all participants in a clear and entertaining manner. Shooters who are unlicensed or licensed shooters whose license is not endorsed for club use will shoot under supervision.


Rocky Gully carries $10m public liability insurance that covers all participants while on the shooting ground. The policy is limited to the shooting ground and authorised Club activities.

Special Events & Corporate Events can be arranged on any day that the Club is not involved in a competition shoot. Contact the Secretary for bookings and to check opening times or to discuss how to become involved in SPORTING CLAYS.
